Macomb-Mary Katherine Welch, 72, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 1:35 PM Friday March 29, 2013 at her residence.
She was born March 25, 1941 in Bushnell, Illinois to Clifford and Teresa Whalen Connor; she married Paul Harris Welch on July 22, 1961 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Macomb, IL. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1995.
She also was preceded in death by her parent’s, a sister Marge and a brother Thomas.
She is survived by 3 sons; Mike (Becky) Welch of Colchester, Steve (Amy) Welch of Macomb, Don (Patti) Welch of Macomb, 7 grandchildren; Nathaniel, Patrick, Tara, Tyler, Megan, Zachery, Jordyn, 2 brothers; John (Barb) Connor of Tennessee, Gene (Ann) Connor of Macomb and 1 sister Loretta (Roger) Baucom of Macomb. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mary lived in the Macomb area most of her life. She attended St. Paul School, Macomb Sr. High School and Beauty School in Quincy.
She worked at the Band Box located on the West side of Chandler Park, in the kitchen at Jenning Sales Barn. She worked at Western Illinois University as a building service employee. She worked in almost every building on campus.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Mary loved bowling and attending the state and national tournaments, going to country music shows with her friend Juanita Mathena, attending basketball, volleyball and softball games. Her family loved going on trail rides with the Lamoine Trail Saddle Club. She always had a vegetable and flower garden.
She enjoyed family dinners and caring for her children and grandchildren. She will be loved and missed by all.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Thursday April 4, 2013 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Father Thomas Szydlik will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home with a Wake service at 7 PM. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Marjorie Connor Spirit Award or Harbor Light Hospice.
